Ok so I just setup my tank and nothing has lived in it before. After my axolotl has been in it a week I found a small cream colored nematode/worm like thing crawling on a river rock. I'm not concerned I'm just wondering where would it come from? I have only introduced the axolotl into the tank and fed him frozen/thawed blood worms and a shrimp pellet. All the river rocks were very thoroughly cleaned and have been dry for many months before this and were very thoroughly washed. So is it possible they hitch hiked to my tank with the axolotl or could it be a parasite he had?

Oh and I'm filtering the tank through a aquaponics system and using hydroton as the media for the plants but I doubt the worm thing came from this either as the clay hydroton was fired in a kiln at very high temps then shipped to me directly after and rinsed super thoroughly at my home.

They usually come from left over food in the tank and can usually be cleared up with simply tank maintenance. I will post a link to one of the thread conversation that is going on now in the forum to further help you understand. You may have to copy and paste it into your browser for it to work.

Thanks I only saw 2 and haven't seen any since i did a water change after I saw them and the tank stays pretty clean anyway as it has a five gallon aquaponic filter that also grows water cress so it's a 20 gallon tank but probably has like 23 gallons in it
