New Axi, but is shedding with white goo on body?

I bought him today, tank is all good with readings and temp but he came to me like this? He has some skin coming off him, he's a little unbalanced but it's more due to the sand being very uneven.

I forgot to add about the gills, he's a rescue Axi so his gills are short due to being in a bad tank!

I can't really tell anything from the pic, but from what you say it sounds like the slime coat is shedding. All you can do is make sure the water parameters are perfect, cool water and maybe add some indian almond leaves in the tank.

The only 'odd' thing I've noticed is that he seems to hide behind his log a lot and comes up for air. He's quite a grumpy bugger as it is, but other than that there seems to be no issues. I'm getting him a cooler in the next few days, I'm struggling to keep the temp down!
