So I recently became an owner of my own little axie, the problem was the breeder sent him way too soon as we agreed that they would hold him until my tank was cycled but messed up their shipping and sent him to me. So now I have a non cycled tank for the little guy, its a 36 gallon and so far ive been doing 20% water changes daily and keeping the ammonia between .25 and .5 I am looking for anyone who has had experience with cycling with the axie and what they did ( I know this is not the ideal situation) hes still youngish around 5 months old and about 5 inches long. He has only been eating about half a worm a day but I think that might be due to a new home (hes only been here 3 days) but other then that he doesnt seem to be in any distress and just kind of lazily sits on the plants and things. please give me any info you can :)

Congrats on your new axolotl! Sounds like you are doing what you can, just keeping on top the water changes and maybe add some golden pothos to help. There might be a big spike of ammonia before the cycling is complete so test water daily. If it spikes super high change most of the water but don't rinse filters. This happened to my daughter too, axolotls came home way sooner than expected and her tank was not ready. She did exactly what you described you are doing and her two are doing great 8 months later.
