Hello, and waves from the Northshore Suburbs of Chicago. Just signed up a couple hours ago and got validated or activated. I've been quite experienced with Aquariums for some time now, and I've been making a few blocks of time during my studious time during school sessions to take care of my aquatic wonderlands. I have a 5-gallon low tech planted tank through the potted Walstad method-esque planting, a 38-gallon cichlid tank, and a 36-gallon community tank which I recently "refurbished". I used to have a shrimp tank with acclimated land-moss but that's for some other time.

Anyhow, I got a new white axolotl with black eyes, 4 inches give or take a half, and is doing great. Got a 15-gallon tank from my local pet shop and here's my setup.

x1 Digital thermometer
x1 Big spinny fan
x0 lids, the water level isn't high enough for these buggers to jump out from
20lbs of Carib Sea Super Natural sand
x1 Tetra Whisper 20 filter I picked up on clearance
x1 one hiding rock
Few river stones for a patterned patio
x1 big bunch of Hornworts to suck up ammonia
x1 small air stone
x1 light fixture on the way from Amazon

Temperature has been around 76-78 degrees and getting lower after I got the fan installed, I know they like the mid to high sixties, but can't get the water temp that low here. He seems to be doing awesome. Swimming around, hiding in his base camp, and loving to chow on some frozen bloodworms.

Tank should be quickly cycled from the filter media and the hornworts to help with the ammonia consumption, parameters for 0-5ppm nitrates, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and pH a good smack 7. I've been feeding him bloodworms thawed and or freeze-dried, and some house flies which he took like a cham.

I've done some research but not as extensive as I do with my cichlids and the planted tank. I've dosed the tank with some API Aquarium salt which to prevent disease, fungus, and coat issues for the most part. The tank has been set up for about a week now and seems like all is good so far. My only concern at the moment is the temperature. I can't get a water chiller and I'll see whether or not my fan can get the water temperature to below 75 Fahrenheit in this hot Chicago summer.

Please ask questions regarding my tank so I can know where I'm up short on something and on some other tips regarding these real-life Mudkips or Woopers.
