Hi everyone
I have just bought my first axolotl (leucistic) and am very excited i was just wondering if it is essential to have oxygenating plants in the enclosure with the axolotl or not?

Welcome to the site, It is not necessary but can be beneficial, oxygen exchange will happen so long as the surface tension of the water is broken. This can be achieved by a filetr or airstone

Surface tension is a constant phenomenon. Airstones and filters improve gaseous exchange in water because they move the water in the aquarium around, thus decreasing the time it takes for dissolved gases to reach the surface and exchange at the water's surface. From an oxygen point of view, aquatic plants are only beneficial during the day/light and a few hours either side - at night they are net producers of carbon dioxide.

heeya !
iv been housing axo's for about 4 years. no, it isnt necessary just grab a slow motion filter so your axo doesnt go flying around the tank.
plastic plants are fine if you want to make your tank look pretty :happy:\\
