New axolotl won't eat

Well my Axie now rejects the meal worms too so might have to give black worms and earthworms a shot. I got my axolotl from strictly aquariums at West ryde. Tank was bare bottom if I can remember correctly and he looked pretty happy and healthy in the tank at the store.

I reported that store to the RSPCA as they had their axolotls on gravel & the manager used the excuse that they only had under gravel filters available!

They also advise customers that gravel is fine "as long as your axolotl doesn't eat it!"

The store manager was not helpful & I had to report them.

So the fear is that he may have been on gravel before they cleaned up their act. What substrate have you got in the tank now?

I was absolutely terrified that my axies were going to starve when I first got them. They hardly ate for two weeks, maybe a pellet every few days and I had no luck with bloodworms or earthworms. They got a bit leaner but I guess they just needed time to settle in. I'm not sure but from the look of the tank they came out of they may have been living in dirty water for months. So yeah, try not to stress yourself out too much, I know what you're going through.

I'm not saying that it's ideal for axies not to feed for the first few weeks that you own them, this is just my personal experiance with new adults.

Edit: I found that the best medicine (so to speak) was to just leave them be. I Offered food once a day and cleared out anything that didn't get sucked up within half an hour.
