Remove that gravel and replace it with sand.

Axies tend to swallow gravel when they get bigger and this leads to constipation and possibly death.

Congrats on the new babies though!

Alright i deff will. I know about that. most of them spit out the rocks though :) They're just in rocks for now cuz they're too small to swallow them :p i'll deffinatly switch to a nice fine sand though as soon as i can, at the moment, theres no where that sells sand here ><

Yeah, but it only takes one for an axie to end up belly-up :( Might I suggest slate tiles (natural, not treated) as an alternative if you can't get sand? Or else check the internet- there are frequently aquarium companies that deliver.

I know I know. I am looking. I just cant find any >-< Thats why im glad ive got a lil while before they can actually eat them X_X so i can hopfully find some sand before they start eating them.

They are so little. I have never seen them for sale so small before. When they are so little you can really keep raising them with no gravel and low water. It makes it easier to feed and clean them. My babies are a little older than yours and I still watch them constantly to make sure they are ok as I feel they are still so vulnerable. I wish you all the very best with your new babies.

Anything smaller than axolotls head they can and will swallow.
And by the looks of the pictures, there are some that are the same size as their heads and smaller.
Also baby's can get trapped underneath gravel like that and at that size will still require a 100% water change daily, so for cleaning purposes it is best to have a simple set up in a food storage container until they become juveniles around about 6cm long.
All the best luck with them, they are gorgeous :)

Alright, thank you guys very much :) this is my first time with babys >< so im not 100% sure what im doing. i like them having room to swim around, but i'll deff take out the gravel and what not.

they are adorable!!! But please please please don't put off removing that gravel. I got my axies when they were tiny and they were on gravel in the pet shop. 6 months later one of them has just pooped out a bit of gravel that has been inside his tum all that time. I have never kept mine on gravel and there is no other way he could have gotten any into his belly since I have had him.

@ HelloKitty - I know! I just read that D: thats terrible. Im going to move them to a small container untill they reach juvenile stage for a bit. The petstore i got them from has them & the parents on rocks :( I saw the dad eating them. i told the owner and he just said "they spit them out." ><

@ Yellowpebble - They're eating bloodworms right now, they've JUST gotten past the BBS stage, and enjoy me hand-feeding them bloodworms :) they like to swim into my hand and sit on it and take some worms from my fingers. its really adorable.

Ta da! no more gravel :) No sand eaither just yet. cant find any anywhere. gna check ebay aswell as get some bbs. Ive got some better pics of my babys without the gravel :) one of them really likes my air pump :3 its cute. he goes and plays in the bubbles. gets blown away a bit then goes back to play some more.:p

I love the gravel, but unfortunately it's not an axie thing. Glad it's out right now. :D
I prefer keeping my baby axies in bare bottom tanks. I know that bigger axies poop or spit out sand pretty easily but I don't know about very young axies. When they're about 12 cm I put them on sand :D

Don't worry, you'll find your sand one day.
You can also use children's play sand when you can't find 'aquarium sand'. Pretty cheap.

:) I'm happy I got the gravel out and I know my babys are safe, although I've gotta get a different heater =[ The one I've got is set to keep the temp at 25 +1 celcius. (I know its way too hot. thats why I just attempting to keep the water about 20 - 22ish.

Very cute!
You don't need a heater either, the temp should be between 16 and 22. Save the money for some sand and hides for the lil ones :) By the looks the babies could get burnt by the heater in the tank so you should take that out now :(

Oh yeah, I took that out when I took out the gravel. :) But I do have a light on so they get a little bit of heat. The waters rather far away from the light so its just a tiny bit of heat :) So the water dosn't get way too cold.

I'm glad the gravel is gone! They really are so cute I want to steal them! I can't believe mine were just a tiny bit bigger than that when I got them! You don't really have to use anything to line the bottom of their tank so don't worry if you cant find any sand. I just use it because its easier to keep my fake plants in one place.

Lol im not worried about finding it, i just want to find it cuz it makes the tank look better. lol. my fake plants have suction cups on the bottom :p and 2 of them just have heavy enough bottoms that they stay :p
