Axies love to bite airbubbles and jets of water IME.
They won't so much hurt themselves, but it might be sensible to move the rock, and pin the airline with sucker clips, so he can enjoy doing it.

Yes, axie gills DO flush red when they're in "hunt" mode - they need the extra oxygen to supply their pounce and snap.
Snoozing, they don't need so much, so they turn the bloodflow down, and relax.

Yup. Spyyk's claws are going black.

Also, I noticed their teeth are a similar colour!

phew, I was thinking maybe it was some sort of fungus startig to grow!

how old do they begin to mature?

It varies IME - I think Spyyk is about 8 months old - however, Ziggy (a 'Lotl I cared for a while back) started turning about 6months.

I'm not dead certain, as I don't know the hatch dates - but that's my guesstimate - about 7-12 months.

axie was just sitting there happily today and then he suddenly went mad... he started trying to jump out of his tank and swam really fast into the side wall, swam back the other way and tried to jump out... when i got up to look, he quick sunk to the bottom and sat there

He looks ok now, i fed him a bit...he's sittin there lookin around his tank

I think of Spyyk like a housecat - he's happy to sit around all day, until he suddenly sparks out, shoots around - and then pretends nothing happened.
