So I've seen a few photos of Axolotls before and I didn't think people actually kept them in home tanks. Well I found out that people do keep them so I might be getting one.:D I love the albino variation. I have kept FW fish for a few years and currently breed killifish. I might be getting a 80g tank if the guy on Craigslist is willing to deliver it. An 80g tank would be big enough for a pair(separated?) to live in right?

Hello Cathy, from one future axolotl keeper to another welcome to the forum.

An 80 gallon tank is big enough to keep 5 or 6.

You don't need to separate them, unless you're trying to prevent breeding. Even then, it's not always sucessful.

Being in Phoenix, you will have heat to contend with. Axolotls do best kept cool.

I'm working on a diy chiller and won't get them until I have the temp worked out. Even now with it starting to cool off my tanks run too hot for an axie.:(
