Hi everyone, my name is Peter and I have been passionate about herpetofauna of all kinds since childhood (a long time ago ).

In the past I have kept and bred various taxa from Australian pythons to Dart frogs and salamander species but I no longer have time to do so due to actively pursuing my main interest which is active conservation of indigenous herpetofauna. Through my work and in my own time through recently setting up an ARG (Amphibian and Reptile Group) with a few like minded people we are busy creating and restoring aquatic and terrestrial habitat at a number of sites local to me and constantly looking for more opportunities to do so. We are currently just about to embark on this year`s toads on roads campaign and assist migrating toads as they attempt to negotiate treacherous roads on their way to their breeding ponds.

I also moderate on Captivebred forums, but I have joined here as I would like to brush up on my husbandry skills with regard to the genus Triturus, particularly cristatus. I will at some point in the near future be looking to source some genuine captivebred T.cristatus as I would like to produce some of our own images for the ARG website as well as hopefully some breeding sequence behaviour images. (Pretty good excuse to keep some newts again!). I have a conservation license pertaining to T.cristatus but would rather go down the route of using captivebred stock, obviously of the northern race.

Anyway, very glad that I joined, Caudata.org certainly looks like a no-nonsence, friendly, interesting and informative place to be. I look forward to speaking with the members around the forum.

Welcome to the forum Peter - I recognise the name from dendroworld.

CB T.cristatus are quite rare in the UK due to their protected status. Some members keep them so you may get lucky. In terms of husbandry the crested newts are all very similar. An excellent care sheet can be found here: http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Triturus/Triturus_sp.shtml
