Hi everyone!
I got 2 marbled newts last week. This is where they are living at the moment - all the stuff is from a forest (mostly beech, oak and holly). I mixed the decomposed leaves and soil with some coconut coir. I hope the substrate will last and that the moss and plants live for some time. I'm not sure yet if I'll keep the newts terrestrial or aquatic when they're older.
Thanks for your comments!

Not have much experience with this type of newts but it seems to me!
Try to always keep it moist but not flooded! If plants do not resist change, it is preferable to others. However I think you better give them a semi-aquatic, so that the time they went to the water gradually! Good luck, it's very cool!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
