Greetings, My missus and I have just decided to get some axolotls and have our tank already set up. Never looked after anything aquatic more then some gold fish and Siamese fighters though so its going to be a learning experience. We planned to get 2 baby ones in a 50L tank.

Will starting with baby axolotls (about 10-15cm long) be a bad idea for our first ones?

That's almost 6 inches right? I got mine at like 4 inches. Basically the same care:) you can get pellets or feed chopped up earthworms. Just read the care page and you're golden:) let us know if you have any questions!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
