New tank idea

hello, here is my 35 gal. tank

i would like to put shelves on both sides like this

i will be using 1/4" plate glass,i have glass rods to silicone to the sides horizontaly.should i glue more verticaly and if so should there be a row of them.
here is a turtle tank i made frome the same glass(as the shelves)

i didnt no turtles went on land i thought they where fully aqautic or am i wrong lol and thats a very good idea looks cool

Some turtles are completly aquatic, and you will hardly ever see come out of the water. Although many turtles enjoy a nice turtle dock to come out and bask.

just wondering can you handle turtles ie pick them up and is there any specific turtles that can come on land

Hi, I don't know any particular turtles that will come on land, but you can look around. Turtles can be picked up, although they are similar to newt and sals, in that they can, but its not the best thing for them. Good luck!

this turtle is an african mud turtle. some times he likes to burrow in the gravle.but he usualy stays in the water. i dont pick him up he has a snaper like jaw.

turtles don't like a basking area, they need it! a turtle needs the uv rays to digest it'd food. box turtles come on land, and so do tortises. there is one thing that answers about handling turtles: DON'T. I have raised two red eared sliders, and they are great pets. if interested in one, i would get it from someone here: turtletimes.com great website!

I "baby-sat" a red eared slider for awhile, who always came up on land. Unfortunatley, his owners didn't know how to care for him, and only gave him four inches of water and no land, so he had shell rot and severe calcium defeciency when I got him. I set up a huge pen in the back yard that included a shallow pool with duckweed and a kiddie pool with rocks and islands. He loved burrowing in grass and leaves and such. At the end of the summer, it was time for him to go back to his owners...I tried to get them to give him to me, but they took him back and put him back into his tiny tank, that was just as wide as he was! A week later, he escaped their kid who was playing with him in the backyard, and they didn't even look for him. I went out everyday into their neighbourhood for a week, looking for him, and put up signs, but he never turned up.

I assume he froze to death this winter.

Did you manage to find him?

Paddles's (the RES) owners didn't even care. They assumed that he somehow managed to make it to the lake by our house...but to do so, he would have had to walk more then 50 blocks, cross a highway, and numerous busy intersections. It still makes me sad thinking about him...I was really attached to him, and they didn't even care.

the thing about basking and uv is corect. however this turtle here does not like to bask. he hates it, so i put the tank by a window where it will get indirect sunlight

Escaped turtles: I have found 2 red eared sliders in the middle of the street near my house. Both in (different) cul de sacs, where I checked at every house for the owners and put up signs and never found out where they belonged. Those things can travel.
