New to caudata.

hello friends, last week i went to the petshop and saw salamanders for sale, I have a 198 litre tank fiiled with malawis and i want to replace them with salamander, i need to know please,cause the seller don`t know anything.

Heater 10 inch,what temperature require?
Rocks ( i have already fluffy rocks)make water hardened(for malawis). Can I use for salamanders?.
Filtration I have a 780ltr per minute Jebo
Plastic plants
5mm diametre gravel, and 4 airstones.

I wish to make it half full of water with semi rocky area,any help or suggestions pls.

I don`t know much about caudata, because i have seen pitures with a 1 litre water and and moist soil and gravel, and I have seen a full filled aquariums with water with salamanders swimming as fish.

Cynops orientalis benefit from having a large volume of water. the more water the better. Healthy animals rarely, if ever, go out of the water, so terrestrial areas are for the most part a total waste of space.

Thanks a lot, So as I understood, these newts want a lot of water instaed of solid rock space, I thought i have done the opposite way round. Now the neon tube is good? To be honest i don`t like it, what is preferably for these newts pls?

The neon tube i see no point for it....
Substitute it for a normal everyday tube.
Yes, terrestrial surface is very likely not to be used. If i were you i would take the rocks out since they take a lot of water volume and i really don´t see much point for them. I´d also raise the water level to nearly the top(leaving perhaps 3-4cm to the rim). If you like you can place a piece of floating cork bark as a terrestrial surface..it´s more than enough for this species.
Live plants are a huge help in keeping the water quality, plus the newts love to hang on them. The more plants the better.

That´s just my opinion though...it´s up to you what to do.

Thanks very much indeed, i really appreciated that, I am getting the water high but not so much,i like an amphibious environment in it, about the wood bark i try ti find out something suitable and for sure i will change the neon tube.
