Hey guys,
I was at the annual reptile show today and picked up a young axolotl. It wasn't a planned purchase. I talked to the guy a little and from everything he had told me, axolotls were not difficult to keep. On top of that, the little guy was a mere $15. So, being the irresponsible person that I am, I bought one instead of the thousand crickets I was originally planning on(its only a few bucks more at the local reptile shop anyways).
ANYways...the little guy is fascinating. I have him set up in a temporary home(its a large custom made hard plastic almost fishbowl-type enclosure). He's got a great appetite, he's gobbled up a housefly and some fruit flies already.
As soon as my turtles are ready for a larger tank(within the 3-6 months), the little axolotl will be going into the 20 gallon tank and I'll pick up a couple more, and possibly try my hand at breeding. At least thats the current best-scenario plan.
I also keep bearded dragons, a couple snakes, some exotic mantids, four aquatic turtles, a leopard gecko, and a few tarantulas. I used to keep fish before all of that.
So thats my story. I hope to learn a lot while I'm here!
Thanks!
Andrew
