Hello,
My name is Jennifer, I live in Southern BC on the West Coast (or what we like to call the Wet Coast). I've never owned any amphibians before (I classify myself as a lover of ALL animals) Now that my husband brought one home and my 11yr old daughter has fallen in love with it - the little creatures comfort falls into my hands. I had a look around these forums and the people here seem really knowledgable and dedicated to their animals. I look forward to learning all I can about Red Bellied Newts so that "Toothless" can live a long, happy and healthy life. :)

Welcome, Wet Coaster! Best of luck with the newt.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
