Although it has no inhabitants yet, I thought I'd post a pic of my tank

It's a product made by Hagen, under the exo-terra label, called Riverbed Sand. It's a very fine, soft sand, but heavy enough that is stays on the bottom. It's the first time I've used it, and I rather like it, but it's expensive. I usually like 2 inches of substrate for plants, but that kind of depth would have cost me a bundle. The stuff is $10 a bag, and it took 3 bags to get about a 3/4 of an inch.
 
Well it looks nice. I would like some sand that is heavier. But I worry about natural sand rasing my pH even higher than it is.

I will check back with you in a few months and see if your pH raises
