Newt brought home from Nonnie's need care help

My son brought home a little newt from his visit in Buffalo, NY. I have him in a 10 gal tank with water, moss, grass, and rocks. I am looking for basic info, like type, appx. age, he is orange with black spots(see picture) I am feeding him bugs, worms, etc. but he doesn't seem to eat alot. Any info would be a help as we really think he's a cool little thing and want to keep him healthy and happy.

Let me also add to my previous post, that I DID NOT catch him, the "cousins" did and thought it would be a fun pet for my son to bring home. I immediately called the VA Living Museum upon his return home to VA and Kory recommended this forum for help as it was not possible for me to return it 12 hours away to it's natural habitat. Thanks again for any assistance.
