my first newt ... FIG NEWTON died about a week ago .. i have a 10gal. terestrial tank what should i get it in now... i believe he died of a desiese or stress because he wasent eating

Sorry to hear that your newt died. However, if you think he died of stress, why don't you go through a few of the caresheets here: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/setups.shtml.
That way, you can minimize the reasons for losing another pet. I know it's never easy to see an animal starve to death. It's really a horrible experience!

It's also important to know what kind of newt it was because some newts can't live in terrestrial tanks, I think most need some water.

i know .. i read every thing here millions of times ... it was a umm.... plethliodon it was terestrial i had a water bowl ..... i believe it got stressed because i was handleing it more .. i usually didnt touch it but i took it out 2 times in one week so i thik it went into schock like and didnt eat

no ... its illegal in jersey to get one of those... but now i plan to get legal ones ... shoudl i go tiger ... i here they are very hardy??

Lee, It is against the state law to own a tiger salamander in NJ. You will need to look at other options.

but .... ed... ive looked at that nj state thing and it says you need a liceses... sorry bout the spelling oo and my local dealer is supposed to be getting a shipment soon .. how do he plan to sell them if there illegal??

Eastern Tiger salamanders are on the NJ endangered species list and the State of NJ prohibits the possession of similar species because they feel it is difficult to tell them apart. This ban also includes mudpuppies and axolotls.
I suspect that your local pet store is running a risk of major legal problems.

why axotols ... darn goverment ... im mean i thought axoltls naturally grew in mexico .. why would they be in jersey, why do they have a problem wit hthem ..... so what basiclly only firebellys are legal?

The reason axolotls are also banned is because axolotls and larval tiger salamanders look the same and are difficult to tell apart when looking at them in people's houses.
No, more than firebellies are legal but they are not often carried in the local pet stores. I have seen Taricha for sale in the pet stores in South Jersey as well as Paramesotriton. A large number of species are legal to own but you probably will not see them for sale in the local pet stores.

ok well... even though my newt love ..i ve gotten two reptiles , pink bellied swifts .. so yo uguys may not seeing me around till i get a nother newt ....
