This summer I kept my newts in a basement to keep them cool. about halfway through the summer I accidentally left the screen open just a little bit for about a day. this was of course just enough time for one of my newts to escape. I looked everywhere for it and finally considered it a lost cause. about a week ago I moved out of that apartment and just as I finished packing up all my newts, who should appear but a really dry starving newt crawling by at a snails pace. I really couldn't believe it, but it was the same newt. she survived for about a month out of the tank. there must have been a damp corner of the basement that she found and just hid out in for the whole time.
just thought I would share this lost newt success story. through this is certainly a rare story, an escaped newt does not always mean a dead newt.
