Has anyone attempted or no if any newt species; Middle Eastern, Cynops, Alpine, Redspotted, or Paddletail newts would be able to co-exist with each other in a big 55 gallon terrarium that is half water and half land? If so, what types? How much water, how much land? Any other help you can give about this would be appreciated. Thanks!

The short answer is no. It's not advised to mix species. Here are a couple of reasons why: Middle eastern species are fairly shy, sensitive, and relatively hard to come by. Cynops are small and make great snack food to larger species. Red spotted (or eastern) newts are highly toxic. Paddletail newts are extremely aggressive and will attempt to eat anything that is smaller.

If you'd like more examples, please read the below articles.

None of those species need much land. Any one of them would be fine in a 55-gallon tank that is mostly aquatic. I'm a member of the one-species-per-tank club.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
