I’m a bit confused and hoping for some insight. My Chalupa has been in his tank for a week now but I have continued to test his water daily using an API master kit because I had some ups and downs with cycling and I just want to keep an eye on things for a bit. Everything has been fine until I tested today and I had slight nitrites, I don’t think I would even call it .25. I tested it again just to be sure and got the same result. All other parameters are fine, ph 7.4 ammonia 0 and nitrates 10. He did take a massive poo yesterday evening, I am talking huge. 😂 I don’t think he had since he’s been in the tank and I check it at least twice a day. Could that be the cause of the nitrites? I dosed his tank with Seachem Prime for the volume of his tank after testing because I panicked but I’m not sure if I should take him out and tub him?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
