East Brunswick: Beekman Road will be closed tonight in anticipation of salamander migration
movement, according to Richard Wolfert, director of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission.
Wolfert said sites to the town's west and north reported some movement on Tuesday night,
signaling that there could be some activity to come for the township's annual Salamander Migration.
He said temperatures will be above 38 degrees and suitable for movement until about 10 p.m.
The spotted salamander and spring peeper cross Beekman Road where the amphibians head to a vernal pool for an annual mating ritual.
Residents frequently take flash lights and watch the reptiles as they scurry acorss the road.
