Hi! I have a northwestern Salamander. My husband was fighting fire near Napa last year and this little guy came from a creekbed. He's been living in a tank but i want to set it up better for him. I'd appreciate any tips on it. Also he only seems to like crickets. I tried meal worms, garden worms and night crawlers. Im sorry if this isnt the appropriate place to post this. Im still trying to navigate the sight. Thank you everyone!

I have one that I keep in a very simple tank, since all he does is hide anyway. Soil, a couple houses. I used to have a little pond for him but he never used it. I feed him nightcrawlers. He can't resist their wiggling and I love to see him attach and thrash them! Maybe just keep trying. Nightcrawlers are the best food for them.

Good luck!

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
