Hi, I'm hoping for some input from the more experienced member here.
I'm encountering problems with my 12 y/o.. yes 12! buddy, Abraham. Abes had a trip to the vet Sept last year when he went off his food (soooo unlike him!) and rarely pooing, which resulted in a round of injected antibiotics for an infection. He's now back off his food, not pooing and gaining quite a rounded belly, me him generally being not himself. My question is... do axies encounter problems with digestion with age? Or could this be the sign of something as sinister as kidney failure given his age? I'm waiting on an appointment with my axies vet and want to know if there's anything I can try in the interim? I feel soo helpless, we've made it through a couple of ailments in his life.

I should add he's not showing the tail floating sign of constipation.

Abes diet these days is predominantly pre soaked axie pellets and I can no longer have my worn farm. When he goes off his food or had issues with popping in the past, I've been able to entice him with some lean clean meat, but he's even turning away from this
He's always lived in a chilled tank to 19 degrees, with sand substrate.
Susgestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bloating is usually not a good sign and could be organ failure (possibly kidneys). It could also be a bacterial infection. Best to get him to a vet. Here is a link on bloat. Maybe post some pictures as well?

Nutritionally not ideal but maybe in attempt to get him to eat you could try scallops. Apparently these can be quite palatable.

Thanks, yes that's my biggest concern. The earliest appointment I could get was next week (they're an exotic vet which have seen him in the past) as he's black and in a 3ft tank he's hard to get close to photograph, will give it another go shortly. I'm mindful of taking him out unnecessarily to photograph as he doesn't look comfortable, so I'm sure he'd like to be left alone as much he can.. often hiding in his hides hole..

I'll also give the scallops a go! Where would be the best place to purchase to alivate risk of contamination?
