ok i'm having problems with my newts eating. they will only eat worms, but for some unknown reason all the earthworms have left my yard. and they're still too small to eat those huge earth worms. any suggestions? anything like a small worm that hey can eat insted? or any way to make the worms come back?

start chopping stuff.

Water one spot of your lawn (maybe a 10x10 foot square) frequently (dont drown it, but keep it fairly moist), then dig there for worms.

place wet news paper on the ground and keep it wet the worms will come up after a few days.
tony.

Try feeding them frozen thawed bloodworms offered on a toothpick or tweezers or chopsticks. Or buy some worms at a bait shop.

what kind of newts are they?
I have had newts of many species over the years (various firebellies, paddletails, warty newts, taricha newts, etc.)
Every species I have had will take many non-live foods: freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex worms, dried baby srhimp, daphnia, reptomin, frozen brine shrimp, etc. I usually also mix in live foods like chopped worms, tiny crickets, and the occassional guppy for the fast kinds.

By the way, in my opinion, the easiest non-live food to get them to eat has been freeze-dried bloodworms, which you can find at any pet store.

hi are they aquatic or landbased justin
