What do you call a golden albino that's not an albino and isn't really all that golden all over?

Little fish is doing my head in :(
Maybe he's wild or copper but I can't see any dark pigment aside from his eyes. The color migration is just fine and goes all the way down to his belly he's shiny so definitely not melanoid
He looks golden but has the slightest of color variation in a wild like pattern and the fins down his tail and back seem to lack all colour, they are just clear/pink
HELP
He's almost 6 months old now
This is him at a few weeks old with his spots.. Mr salt and pepper
2cnck3.jpg

and how the spots have developed
1 & 2. Fish with is spots that he had as a baby after they started to group together in a pattern.
3. his body @ 4 months ish the gold goes all the way down and you can sort of see his pink and gold mottled pattern The pink is where the spots used to be
4. His tail at the same time with it's clear fins and shiny spots
5-7. Fish Yesterday at almost 6 months
8. His pretty green eye yesterday

Mum is golden albino (M/m, AX/ax, a/a and D/D or D/d) and daddy is wild (M/m, AX/ax, A/a and D/D or D/d) if that helps.

He is very pretty, maybe like a cross of golden albino & albino? I know daddy is wild-type, but.. maybe?

Little fish is doing my head in :(
Is his name Fish, as later you said "Fish Yesterday at almost 6 month"?

Thank you. He is pretty cool  just wish I knew what to call his colour

Yes his name is Fish :D My then 2 and a bit year old called him Fish when he first saw him and it kind of stuck  He did know it was an axie at the time and had spent time talking to his parents  not sure if they ever talked back but it sounded like he had some wonderful conversations with them.

I would have gone golden albino if his eyes were... well... albino  he's doing my head in.
I know wild types vary in color a lot from tan to almost solid black but he seems to take "tan" to the extreme, if he is indeed wild type

What a strange fellow.

His eyes don't really look albino (but I'm on the lap top so that could be part of it). I'd say he's definitely hypomelanistic. He's also probably not melanoid, because of all the yellow (which also rules out being axanthic). I also don't think he's leucistic because of how all the yellow migrated out. Unless he's one of those highly pigmented leucistics, but is lacking melanophores due to some genetic mutation.

Cool axie! I have one that is similar. Mine though is a golden albino- supposedly. He has very pale yellow patterning on him like your Fish does. He almost looks completely albino- and also has an albino eye unlike your little guy. Maybe yours is some sort of a golden albino without the albino eye.

Pretty axie though!

I´m stumped. If it was an albino, then the coloration could possibly be explained by an accumulation of flavonoids, but being leucistic, such a thing would in theory be impossible since there would be no pigment cells to accumulate flavonoids in...
Looking at the eyes, i´m not so sure that animal is not albino...

Given the genetic cocktail that axolotls have these days, who knows what extrange mutations they may be showing.

This is a pic of my Luna.... which Fish looks a lot like.. except for that eye! Must be a mutation of some sort.

Well on the axolotl.org color page, they do mention a "yellow leucistic" - perhaps that's what he is??

A very interesting case,
Well your axie does not seem to be expressing the albino gene as melanin is present in the iris, or the melaniod gene as there are still iridophores (shiny pigments) around the gills and eyes.
It would seem to be a wild type, that for some reason is lacking melanin production only in the dermal layer of the skin as there are still patches of xanthopores (yellow pigments) visible.

whatever the case you seem to have a uniquie individual there, wheather it is simply an extreeme variance in the wild type which may sometimes occur, or even perhaps a new colour mutant.

Thanks guys.
Awww Luna is a beauty  such a pretty golden albino. My GA is all gold  very boring but I love Luna's pattern. It is very like Fish's pattern.

Those Yellow wilds are beautiful too, never seen those before.

A wild type with some genetic mutation that effects the melanin in his skin sounds good to me. Guess that makes him a Golden Wild type.

I guess the only way I will ever narrow down his genome is to mate him with a known female and see what I get haha assuming he doesn't pass his melanin issues on  Oh well for now he is just a pretty and unique little man.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
