I just spent the last week in Oklahoma and had the worst luck herping. I figured it would be good out there because of all the rain, but it seemed like everything had found really good hiding spots and did not want to come out. I did find a few toads and wood frogs, but the salamanders were nowhere to be found. Is there a point at which too much water has fallen? Has anyone had any experience with an abundance of rain and locating caudates??

When I used to do field work, we had better luck finding sallys when it was dry out. When it`s dry, larger cover objects tend to hold moisture, where as when it`s wet out, they can find cover under smaller objects or leaf litter.

It depends on where you were and what you were looking for. After the spring rains, Ambystoma become rather random and seldom seen. But in the Ozark and Ouchita regions, rain will bring them out anytime. Also, shining cracks and crevices at night in those regions can be very productive.
