Ommatotriton vittatus from last spring

FANTASTIC! Is that the way the male shows off to the female? I have only read about it but to actually see the motions and interaction is amazing. Thanks for posting this video!!

sorry for the bad quality of the video it's been made with a photo-camera, but the males look iff they'r from real gold, and i'll think they'r one of my niced newts.

Wow O_O
Directly to my favourite´s list xD
That has to be the most impressive crest i´ve ever seen. Neat video, i encourage you to upload a lot more hehe. Very interesting how the tail fanning is done. Quite different to other species.
btw...may i ask you a few questions n_n? What size were both of them?and what age? What schedule for winter cooling did you use? And, how long do they stay aquatic(and how long do the males keep they attire)?? I recently acquired this species and i can´t stop dreaming about the day i´ll see them do as in the video......

at the time of the video they were three years old and 11-12 cm long, they stayed the first two years on land and i keep them in the water from Oktober till may. they are housed in my shed and in the winter it will become 2-4 degrees.
I have bred with them two years on a roll.

Thanks for the info. Three years and already such a huuuuge crest....well you must be a really good keeper hehe. Ones again congrats on the mindblowingly beautiful animal and the video...hope to see more ;)
Now i´ll go spend the next two hours whisering my juvies to grow....

The crest is incredible. Congratulations for that newts.
Rodrigo is Ommatotriton vittatus sold here in Spain?

I got mine form a dutch breeder. I´ve never heard of anyone breeding ommatotriton in spain. I mean there sure are ppl breeding them...but i´ve never seen any advert or anything. Anyway there are a few breeders in holland germany and england you can contact, and they´ll ship here to spain. I´ve gotten newts shipped thrice and it´s pretty safe, usually ppl who breed newts know their stuff and ship properly, and sell healthy animals. If you want i can give you a couple names to buy from, if you´re trying to find these species....
btw...nice to see more spanish ppl, in here :)

Thanks Rodrigo but at the moment I´m very happy with my two notophthalmus viridescens. If in the future I am interested in this specie I will tell you.
