Online Newts???

I'm trying to find some japanese firebelly newts for my tank but can't seem to find a pet store in my area that carries them. does anyone know of any websites that i can special order them?

If you are patient and persistent, you will eventually find them advertised by individual breeders on this website. There were some adults recently posted in the ads. I was giving away captive bred juveniles this spring, and had a hard time finding people to take them off my hands! I don't know of any place currently selling them online - everyone seems to sell only Chinese fbn.

I may only be speaking for myself but.....my biggest concern is the shipping issue. The thought of those poor newts having to do the redeye in a jiffy pack worries me. Should I be concerned?

Any suggestions?

I know that Aaron (Babamba) had some nice ones for sale on the classifieds board a short time back.

No offense Steve, but my suggestion is "get over it".

If you ever bought a newt from a pet shop, that poor critter had to suffer MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH WORSE shipping conditions to get there. Pet shop newts spend WEEKS in transit from capture, to exporter, to wholesaler, to pet shop. If an individual person is doing the shipping and they wait for good weather, I am quite sure the newts don't suffer. I have shipped many animals (probably over a hundred by now) and have never lost a single one (except eggs). I am aware that there is a small risk every time, but in the long run it's worth it. Nobody can have a viable captive breeding program without shipping.
