I bought this bilge tank from the recycling depot shop for $25 6months ago and now i've finally got the time I am thinking I might set it up.
It wont be used as a bilge tank though, instead I'm going to custom it so it can house axies. It is going to need a piece of glass put in the bottom on top of the elevated glass pieces so that axies cant swim into the area where the water is sucked up.
The piece i will be putting in is drawn in red in my attatched pic I am wondering because it wont be siliconed in just sitting on the bottom of the tank. will it be too much pressure on the glass(probably a silly question, I assume it would be fine) the glass I can get cut is 5mm thick but will have 55 litres on top of it.
The tank overall is 38.5inch x 21" x 11" and will hold a total of 80litres, the other question is what type of filter should I use. I've been using an 800lph internal powerhead filter for my 3ft tank and have been diverting the outlet flow so it is not too fast for my axies and am wondering if you guys think this type may be suitable for the custom bilge tank. The filters are only $20 from my lps which is cheap and they're great little things I'm hoping I can get away with using it or if I should get a faster or slowing flowing one.
Any other tips/comments/suggestions will be much appreciated.
