Overcrowding

I have about twenty two inch larve in a twenty gallon long. Anyone know what is considered to be too crowded for these guys?

That should work fine if it is heavily planted, with plenty of hides and they are well fed. Water changes should be done faithfully with that many. Don't forget to have the new water well seasoned and the same temperature as the tank.

Hi You may find as often do a couple will grow faster than the rest and then the count goes down. If any start looking big move them on to a tank with just the same size in. They will eat each other usually when they argue over food and the biggest bites the smaller ones head if you don't break it up the big one keeps going until the smallest disappears . They will once started eating the smaller ones keep on so you have to separate. Regards KB

It turns out there were twenty five newts in the tank. I removed five that were bite size, but the rest have just started morphing. Here are the pictures of the first two, which have lost their gills and a whole bunch which lost most of their gills. Thank you for your help.
