Overwintering N. kaiseri

You merkins!

They are in a cool room.

I'm not sure what a merkins is, but if it brings you luck with egg deposition, I'll run with it...

Thanks Andy. Six months working in a British pub in Ecuador and I never picked that one up... Thanks for the translation. Regardless, best of luck Alan-- I will retire to my basement (cool room) and go read up on slang terms...
j

Yeah i had that thought too Jeff! Though i'm sure that wasn't what Alan meant!

I am not making any assumptions as to what Alan meant. Merely posting the definition of mirkin.

There is at least one shop in London that still to this day makes "Mirkins". They have made many creations to order and for the general public.

I presume that your last sentence was a Freudian slip Jeff?

Not only is it surprising that such a establishment still exists but that Jeff seems to have knowledge of the ordering system...

Hmm Mike I see not a single Freudian slip in there.

Lol Mark from year spent caring for my parents I had a lot of time to browse television shows. When you are sitting around waiting for the next thing you are needed for, you watch all sorts of interesting documentaries and not so interesting ones too.

This happened to be one on alternative cultures that had the gentleman who ran the establishment as a guest. Yet another 30 minute slot filled in an otherwise slow day waiting for Mater and Pater to be fit enough to do something.

Absolutely no offense taken, plus a new term learned. I call it a success. I will check out the link though and try to incorporate some of them at opportune moments...

Whoa this thread went way off topic lol
You have a beautiful N. Kaiseri !

Alan, just checking if you have taken them out of cooling yet and if you have any updates. I know there are many of us hoping for the best for you.

Funny you should ask ...
They've been in separate boxes, terrestrial with a small water dish, 10-15C & reduced illumination since 01/11/05. Tomorrow they both go back into a 50:50 tank at 15-20C with a 12:12 light cycle. I expect they will remain terrestrial. They don't know it yet, but after one week, the water level is going to rise 5mm per day until the whole tank is flooded with just a small corkbark island.
Then we'll see ...

For the "merkin" audience, I feel the need to point out that 01/11/05 is November 1, 2005, not January!

Good luck, Alan!!!

Both back in hiding as normal. Now I need to feed them up and gradually raise the water level.

Mine are stil standing in cold 5-10 °C and the animals stay under a stone in a small layer of water although the tank for the rest is dry. I place dthem there 1 december, so they will have to wait a few more weeks....

Hi,

Maybe not a positive but perhaps useful message. This is the second year in a row that my female N. kaiseri is very willing (a nicely pointed cloaca and a grossly swollen abdomen) but the male is not (although he is eating quite well and is in excellent condition). I keep them at the moment at approx 17°C in an aquatic setup. Although they did reproduce under these conditions in 2004, I don't believe anymore that this is the way to do it. Next year, I will keep them terrestrial throughout the winter at 5-10°C and see what they'll do. By then, the juveniles of the first breeding will hopefully be adult so I will have a larger group to assess this.
