Nice pictures of an interesting species, Paul. Seems like somebody has now talked you into Paramesotriton as well.
Already thinking of buying a bigger house or digging additional rooms in your basement?
Very nice ones, Paul, especially the belly pattern on that one in the first pic.
By contrast, I'm weaning myself off Paramesotriton. They're interesting but a bit too sluggish for my tastes. I do intend to keep my caudos though. Very active and intriguing, they are!
Somebody is selling a P. deloustali on an auction board here in Japan with the starting price set at US$500 equivalent! Shame...
OUCH! That looks like a pretty good nip there. Does this happen often with the pair? or just during certain times of the year? Feeding time? Maybe its a case of 'tough love' between the two
I took a pic of my 2.2 group of hongkongensis. My females look like yours in girth and I havent even feed them in a week. So maybe they are both gravid now
I will post pics of the two females seperately later on as its pretty late for me.
In the meantime the tail-shine is very strong.
He sits on his stone, waving. But when a female appears, he becomes aggressive and tries to bite her. Crazy male:
the male was furthermore aggressive, so I decided to separate it from the two female.
I use a tank 100 * 40 * 50 cm which is filled up to 40 cm with water.
I put a glass pane into the tank so that the water can stream through and they can see the others but can not bite them (40cm for the male an 60 cm for the two female).
Here it is:
Now the male and the bigger female often sit an the glass, looking into the other part.
But now also time to relax
:
I'll try to set them together from time to time, because I hope to get fertile eggs.
Paul
