Paddletail newt not doing well, please help!

hello again.

i am wondering if i should continue the treatment after the 2 week period is over.
if i stop treatment and it gets much worse, i will feel terrible.

i am tired and at the end of my patience, but i mostly just want to do what is right for the animal. maybe she will just look funny but live well and be happy, i really don't know.

please advise.

It may not be what you want to hear but I would recommend continuing treatment for several days to a week after all symptoms have subsided. Its great that you've managed with it thus far, and I wish you the best of luck with its continued care and recovery.

Paddletail newt, status & questions.

Hi there, newt in question is still alive and well.
My vet gave me advice after week two of applying treatment to stop.
Pictured is her new pond/island setup.
She receives fresh water every other week.

Blood worms that have been offered (defrosted on a small dish) were consistently rejected and/or lightly picked over. Still have never seen her eat.

However on Sunday I introduced crickets to her environment.
She seems to be hunting them and has been somewhat more active with something to do.

There was a cricket sitting on her back this morning. It responded when i blew on it,
it was alive. Then just now I poked it and it rolled off into the water, dead.
What would cause a cricket to die while sitting on the back of another animal?
Can crickets cause any harm to my Paddletail newt?

Thanks.

Paddletail newts secrete toxin. Enough to kill a cricket in contact with its skin. Just googled it to check after remembering reading about it on caudata.
