Hi

I'm still only a couple months in keeping axolotls. I've been keeping fish and turtles for 4 years now and would like some advise about my axolotl tank. I have a large piece of driftwood that still floats in my 55g tank. The substrate is large river rock, there are a few 8" clay pots in for hiding places, and it is filtered by a Fluval 204 canister. I have four 4" axolotls and wanted to know what everyone used as plants in their tanks. I wanted to use live plants and there is a bunch of java moss in the tank already. Any suggestions or comments would be great.

Thanks

Justin

I have lagarosiphon madagascariensis and hornwort floating. And moneywort and a few stems of anacharis planted together in the center of the tank.

The floating plants block a lot of the light from the bottom of the tank, which the axolotls like.
The axolotls also like to climb up into the floating plants and just "hang" out.
(I must add a disclaimer after saying that. The tank has a full glass top that is completely covers the opening so the axolotls can not jump out of the tank.)

These plants are all doing well, and growing. I am using a single 36" 30 watt fluorescent bulb. The light is on a timer giving the plants 14 hours of lighting per 24 hours.

i use plastic plants but if you are going to use them buy good ones because the cheap ones are rubbish look bad and not suitable for axies because they have sharp parts i think plastic plants are just as good and need less attention
