What are the best plants for axolotl aquariums? I don't want fake ones.

Hello chantiandeanie,

Most people use Java moss because it doesn't not require much light for photosynthesis, which in turn is good for your axolotl because an excessive amount of light can stress them out. This is also works to reduce the growth of algae.

Jay.

Yea as Jay said you want something that can cope with little light. Floating plants are best too as usually axolotls will dig out rooted plants.

Ok, I have decided to get mostly plastic plants now but I have recently added some pvc tubing as I'm going to get a female, will java moss attach itself to the pvc?

Use coarse grit sandpaper to rough up the surface of the pvc, rinse and tie the java moss on with fishing line. It wont really grow into the pipe, but the rough surface combined with the nylon fishing line will allow it to stay anchored.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
