Hello!

new to the axolotl world, but not new to aquatic life.
i have recently acquired two little guys and have them setup in. A dedicated 50 gallon.

The Wild is about 2.5 inches and the other about 2 inches. When will they be ready size wise for contact?

I moved them from tubs into the tank yesterday and they seem to be doing great so far. Gills are no longer curled forward
.The wild gave me a bit of a scare today as he was floating and swimming on surface overnight. I was going to re-tub him . But he swam down immediately when i tried to catch him!
Here is a look at the setup. Please let me know if there is anymore i can do for them. They seem quite calm and happy since moving them. They seem to be stuck on blood worms atm. Didn't eat many pellets yesterday.
I have shaded the tank and given both of them hides in each of their areas. For now seperated until they get bigger. Tank is fully cycled using seeded media.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
