Hi everyone! Im an axolotl lover from australia! And my one of my axolotl is being crazy loco, im torn between him (dunno wat he is everything a him to me lol) his names merlin and he is a harlequin, morphing or stressed, probs more stressed, he does not seem sick as far annd skin infection although i salt bathed him 3 times, or have any other disease or illness that matches, he lives with 2 others, 1 is a year older and the other the same age as merlin, and they are abouut 1 yr old, all three live in a 6 ft tank, with a chiller running for comfort as brisbane wether in summer is hooot! He hasnt eaten in 3 weeks and the others are happy and healthy and eating, they eat frozen beef heart cubes. The filter isnt a power one, but the one before it was but was set on low flow and they had no probs with it, then it exploded ( literally and got this one and its been there 2 months, hes not thin from not eating either.

And all he seems to do in tank las two days is want out of the water, im getting a test kit today to make sure of amonnia, but i dont think its it, as others are normal and never had probs before.... He is currently in the fridge and he is calm as a cucumber in there, not eating but not struggling for air not thrashing or anything pretty sure he likesnit in there hes been in there 10 hrss now, i cleaned the teank out last wednesday over 50 percent wayer scrubbed the ornament ( theres no gravel, as i believ my 1 st axie. Eva had died as a result of **** caught in gravel).

So all in all i have. Not an inkling of wat is up with merlin! Please help :)

Are other foods readily available to you? Beef heart isn't the best diet for axolotls as they can't digest it, sometimes causing impaction. This could be the reason why he is choosing not to eat. It's good that he's now in the fridge as (hopefully) he will be able to pass anything that could have caused blockage. Keep an eye out for anything in his container. Earthworms are a great staple for axolotls even soft pellets are a good food source. Check your water quality asap although as your others are fine, I doubt this is the issue.

Oh ok, at one stage they were on tubifex freeze dries, then i was alternating thembetween beef and tubifex, then the chain of pet shops that sold the tubifex shut down so now on beefheart at this point, i had read tubifex is like mcdonalds despite vitamins in it, and then read was healthier, i will have to look for other food, but yes he is loving the fridge, also wen he was in tank yes arvo my time he then had trouble reaching bottom so he changed from wanting out to trying to get to bottom.

And merlin was the gutsy one would neva refuse foood he got sooo fat at one point

Also mine are hand fe so i need something that will be good for handfeeding as the were bred for hand feeding ( breeder hand feeds them from day one pretty much so they have nooooo clue how to eat off the bottom or chase live food down

Ummm y has my axies eyes gone in head like they do wen they swallow, is that cause of the cold

They arent gone fully, they ar just in head, like wen they swallow, or chew, i think its fine ,ight be the cool water or the fridge light wen it comes on, but he is a strange axolotl, wish he could talk and say wats up. I just home the fridge does something for him, he seems to like it lol

My axies vomit or wat not

Could you post a picture of your axolotl and its usual set up please ?
We may be able to see something that is causing this. Is it possible that your axolotl has eaten something that may be stuck?

Sorry to hear about Merlin :(
I don't think those gills on the golden look healthy like others in the gallery - but I'm sure one of the many experts on here may have answers / solutions.

Hope the rest of the gang are ok :s

Oo wat gallery u looking at?

The gallery pictures that are within this forum - I can't post a link as I'm on iPhone... I'm sure if you type into search 'golden axolotl picture' I'm sure it will give you plenty to look at :D
