Hi, I'm new here and could really use some help. My boyfriend and I have to axololtls. We noticed one had lost appetite and had an enlarged belly. We believe Ezzie may be impacted, even though we have very fine sand at the bottom of their tank and we hand feed. We have had Ezzie in the fridge now for about 2 and a half weeks. It started to seem like it was working. No solid poo but there was some sandy looking stuff in her container about 4 days ago.. nothing sense. Although sense we started fridging every day when we change the water in the container there is this goopy mucus looking stuff. I have a.couple pictures attached. I'm sorry they are not that good. And still no appetite at all.. please if anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it. My boyfriend says I worry to much and this could take a while, but I just to make sure I'm doing everything I can. Thanks again.

Im not sure what that is but hopefully someone here will be able to help you. I hope everything works out ok.

you need to take your axolotl out of the fridge first for him to get his appetite back cause the cold fridge temperature mean less appetite to none. Similar to hibernation . That's why putting axolotl in the fridge works when there's serious injury involve. Warmer temperature will give you axolotl appetite back.

I'm new but I've had a similar experience. This helped mine get back to his normal state.

I agree, I'd stop fridging him.By fridging them it slows down their appetite and they wont eat much at all.

I'd suggest putting him in clean container in a place with low light and cool temperatures. Then, I'd start trying to feed him some frozen bloodworms and make sure to change the water everyday.

Tell us if it works out and keep us updated. I hope everything goes well.

Take "him" out of the fridge she, yes I said she is fine, I'm guessing your Axloltls is a Albino, reason saying this is because she is laying eggs, and I am new too at this so I can't really give you a whole lot of advice, I just know the symptoms which is a gaining plumpness, when she is ready to lay, she will loose her apatite, it will take her anywhere from 4 to 12 hours to lay all of around 200 to 1000 eggs. You have to remove the eggs from the tank, female axolotls should not be breed until they are at least 18 months old, so you will need to separate the two to prevent further breeding, axolotls will breed 2 times a year, but it is extremely stressful on the female to breed more than once a year, so it's best to keep them separately otherwise your jeopardizing her health. And albino axolotls will always lay pigment free eggs, if the larvae aren't albino the pigment should show up in about 12 days
