Hi, I'm quite new to axolotls and have only had mine for a just over two weeks now.

Everything seemed to be going well, he was eating well etc but today I have noticed he's gone much paler along the sides of his body, the only way i can describe it is that is looks like a velvety/moldy slimy coating type thing, will get a picture tomorrow but do you have any idea what it might be?

At the moment I've put him in the fridge with an piece of almond leaf.

Water parameters were all fine last week, haven't been able to check them today as i've run out of stuff, but have done a water change and cleaned all the wood etc, and also noticed I seem to have a snail infestation with lots of tiny tiny baby snails, i dread to think how many are hiding in the sand . Will be getting more water testing stuff tomorrow hopefully

I am not sure why he looks more pale, but the slime like stuff could very well be his natural slime coat, which is not harmful but helpful. If so, there is no need to fridge him or anything. But to be certain it is his slime coat a picture would help a lot.
Snails shouldn't be a problem if they don't reach a very large size, they could just be a snack. -Seth
