It looks almost like fungus, but it's a bit too thick... Is it cloudy or anything? I hate to tell you, but try to feel it a bit with a finger. If it feels solid, it might be a parasitic worm of some sort.

I suppose you could return it if you really wanted to. If nothing else, let the seller know what condition your axolotl arrived in.

I'm not sure he would make the trip back he was shipped here and already seems lethargic..there's no cloudy stuff and when u touch it, it feels hard..after touching I scrubbed my hands for a very long time being freaked out its a parasite ewww..I really hope that's not the case..he also wont eat..unfortunately this is the second one in a row that I have ordered that had a problem the last one had finger missing and a bum leg that was half grown back due to being bit but grew funny so he doesn't seem to be able to use it..must say a little frustrated about the whole thing I just want this one to be ok :( thanks for the help

I've talked to the seller they have no idea what it is they thought maybe from the heat but the package and water were all still very cold when I received it so that doesn't sound likely..they want new to monitor it for a week and let them know how it does

So looking some more..it's a good sign his tail isn't curved tho right?

Great link thank you so much!

I'm looking around for anything else I can find, but I can't find any kind of parasite that looks quite like that. It may be flatworms. Or, and I really hope this isn't the case, it may be parts of the axolotl's intestines. But I really hope that isn't the case. Are the white things coming out of his bum?

No more on the side and then some up behind the gills

Keep him cool in some fresh dechlorinated water and try feeding it up a little, looks quite skinny.

Well, I've given all the information I can. Hopefully someone else can help you out some more. I wouldn't go through with any treatments until you're 100% positive what those things could be. For the time being, just keep it in that container, use ice bottles to make sure it stays cold, and place it in a dark, cool area. I wouldn't recommend fridging right now because if it's already lethargic, and whatever this is is serious, fridging may end up weakening it and possibly killing it.

Yea I thought he looked pretty small too..right now he won't eat anything but will try again first thing in the morning

Thank you for your help he's in the tub with a bottle in my room and if I could give him a teddy bear to snuggle I would..I feel so bad for the little thing

Do you have an update on the little one?

Yes..he did pull through and the spots went away

No it just went away on it's own very strange..he was floating on his side for a couple days after the white stuff fell off then he was fine ..thank goodness
