What's the best way of feeding daphnia to an axolotl? Falkor loves them, but I either have to turn the filter off when the daphnia are in the tank, or move Falkor into a separate bucket and put the daphnia in there. The bucket doesn't seem to stress him, because he starts gobbling up the goodies right away, but if there's some way to have daphnia in the tank without having them all get sucked into the filter, I'd love to know!
i bought some trout pellets, they go for them then spit them out. hmmm
my other axys gills are really feathery and fijibobs arent...its not like hes had anything to bite at them though bcos he has been in a tank on his own for 7 months. the tank was real horrible though it was really small and the water was only like 4 inches high and it was really dirty. does this affect anything?
i went to that manchester pet shop across the road from the apollo and they had 3 axys one leceustic one albino and a wildtype and they were in well bad condition and still charge thirty quid for em! the albino had only one leg and the wildtype seemed to have no gills! thats really cruel though surely theres like laws about how you treat animals in a pet shop. they looked virtually dead!
Our wildtype has a very pale, mottled belly - it's probably normal. And have you considered mentioning your concerns about the Manchester pet shop to the RSPCA?
i was thinkin about the rspca actually...also..i know this isnt as big a deal but i bought some earthworms from there and i got home and they were all dead...when i was leaving the shop...the lad who works there said to (who it hink is) the boss your only allowed to keep worms for 2 days in a way that they had been there a lot longer. overall not very impressed with the shop. except they had these really cool fish which looked exactly like sharks (not silver sharks or rainbow sharks etc) they were called sturtals or somethin and they were fresh cold water! they were so cool though. i cant find anything on the net about them though i think i might have the name wrong.
Hi Jenny, I saw those animals a few weeks ago and they were starting to decline then. Think I mentioned in an earlier post the wildtype had a very red leg.
The shop is generally very good it has many reptiles, birds and fish. But I think they have overpriced there last few and they can't shift them. Plus they weren't the best of the lot.
I have spoken with them and whilst they are good with the fish etc. As usual axies are a bit of an occasional sideline.
Jenny did you check out the sallies? They had a few in a fridge like container near the big reptile display. They keep the sallies in plastic tubs filled with moss and bark and stuff. Interesting but just not axies...lol.
Just to let you know that it is not adivsed at all to keep salamanders or in fact any other animal in an axolotls tank with them.
The axies may either eat them.. which ive seen as a friend put a fire bellied newt in with his and he had to take it out of the axies mouth the newt did not recover. And or the other ainmal may well hurt the axies.
yeah dont worry, the only thing il be mixing with them is earth worms...and prob guppies again...i went to take the 2 guppies out the tank to put in my bfs fish tank then realised one had been eaten so took the last one to his house then the fighter fish attacked it (even though there r other guppies int here and it doesnt bother them) actually no i dont think i could put more guppies in i was well upset when it attacked it i was tryner move it from it with the fish net but it didnt so i stuck my hand in n grabbed the guppie n put it in a seperate tub but it died
it finally got to retire from having to live in fear from the axys and was the last to survive then got battered to death by another fish! ok i prob sound really strange bein upset over a guppie (again!)..sorry...but RIP amelia the second! (who amelia the first also died in a mysterious way as wel as one of them clementines which i am now guessing was bcos of penelope the male fighter!( also have gender confused fish!) )
My axies arent that bright yet, but they're getting there.
Jenny, you should probably get out of the feeder-fish line of thinking if you're going to cry over them, no use causing yourself undue heartache. There are other foods you can use.
