Ok I think I attached a picture of my newt. It does seem to be getting worse. Does anyone know what this is?

You newt has a flesh eating infection. It´s very common in these animals because the importation and capture processes are very harsh on them.
It´s very spread, i´m afraid it´s chances of surviving are very low indeed. Try salt baths to attempt to stop the infection, and provide cool temps, and EXCELENT housing.

Caudata Culture Articles - Salt Solutions in Treating Salamanders

(at the bottom:
A simple salt solution for treating fungus on aquatic caudates is given in:
FAQ#43 in the axolotl.org FAQ:
Give a bath in some salty water for about 10 minutes once or twice a day (2-3 teaspoons aquarium salt or non-iodized table salt per litre or quart). That should kill the fungus within a few days. Don't leave the axolotl in the salt bath for more than 10-15 minutes each time, because the salt will start to damage the axolotl's skin and gills. )

It says "axolotls" but I believe it holds for all newts.

and good luck!

Thanx everyone for your suggestions. I am going to get the salt baths started today.
