Hi, I was wondering about peoples experiances with pothos or devils ivy, and I had a couple of questions. I once heard that you could grow one of these in just water, has anyone ever done this? Has anyone ever had devils ivy or pothos in there water, such as a vine that goes into the water, would that be possible? Thanks.

O ya, does anyone know how to grow moss? I have bought it before, and it just dies, and doesn't spread at all.

Mark, I can't comment on the devil's ivy, but Pothos is a great plant. It cannot grow fully submerged but It can Start in the water and grow onto land or Vice-versa. It depends on what moss species you are refering to. Do you mean terrestrial Moss or aquatic moss such as java moss.?

I've had great success with Pothos/Devils Ivy(assume you mean the same thing) in water but I would at least keep some of the plant in some soil type substrate. While it is true they can root and go quite a while on water alone(I imagine many do this), I think your plant would be much healthier and prosperous with at least some roots in soil for healthy ionic uptake. This is of course not to say that one should fertilize it or anything

I suspect that some plants are able to get fertilization from the nutrients that are in tank water. Pothos grown in soil does have a darker-green color, but ones grown in only water can live for years and still grow like crazy. Here are two of my tanks with pothos growing in just water.

Nice, How long did it take all of you for your pothos to root??? And Hayden, I mean terrestrial moss.

Mark, They Dont need to root in water... Otherwise it doesnt take very long. I dont really have experience w/ terrestrial moss other than keeping it my toads tank but it yellows in a few months and I just get some more.

Okay, thanks, I just like how moss looks. I know it doesn't need to root in water, but I just hear about all these people saying how their pothos grow so good, and mine are just like in "suspended animation" ha ha. The don't grow, but they don't die, All my plants do that.
