Hello, I'm gonna be starting caring for a fire belly newt and I want to ask a few questions.
1. I will be doing meetups and I need advices to how can I bring it home safely.
2. Are there any alternative substrate for a fire belly newt?
3. Are there any other animals that can live with a fire belly newt?

Thanks for the answers.

Hi, welcome to the site. :)
I will assume it is a Chinese firebelly you are getting, but there are a few other species that are sold as 'firebellies'. Some of these can be aggressive and territorial, so it would be best to find out exactly what species it is before you get it.

1. The best way to transport aquatic newts is in a plastic tub with wet moss or kitchen towels.
2. Most people use sand or no substrate at all. Pebbles tend to trap dirt and make cleaning a pain and smaller gravel can cause big problems if the newt accidentally eats any, so whatever you use, just make sure its too large to be swallowed or small enough to pass through the newts digestive system.
3. Apart from other newts of the same species, the only things suitable are snails or shrimp. Fish will upset the newts and other amphibians can easily spread disease or out compete the newts at feeding time.

Here is the care sheet for Chinese firebellies if you haven't found it already.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
