Question: Quick driftwood question.

I bought a large, long driftwood to go on my 55 gallon tank, and I was just wondering what people do with driftwood that it's so large/long it won't fit into a pot to boil or bucket to soak?

I've read on a few places that it's ok to just blast it clean with a hose, would this be good enough? It's just plain bogwood from a LFS, just a long piece very light in color, almost gray. I would I would get lots of tannins from not soaking it, but I thought these wouldn't hurt my axolotl.

I don't know what people do with large pieces of wood, but I do know that tannins shouldn't be a problem. They may actually sooth your axolotl, same as Indian Almond leaves. Though I think tannins will discolor the water a bit. Also, I have simply hosed down driftwood before and put in tanks and had no ill effects with my newts. -Seth

Thanks, Seth. I was hoping that would work as I would have no idea what to do otherwise. I don't mind the tank water getting a bit or a lot discolored, especially since the tannins are supposed to be good.
