The session about bad food was scary. Especially the 2nd case. What can we do as pet owners to prevent such a thing from happening?

My guess is test feed fish with the food your are using, as I believe this has happned with live bloodworms or musquito larvae. Get some guppies and feed them the food first, then wait a day to see what happens.
