I'm just curious as to whether or not for one we can do this and two if it's a good idea?

When I got my first axolotl I had already found this place and done some research but I'm wondering how many people stroll into a pet shop see one and immediately take it home...

Do you think it's worth mentioning this site to pet shop owners to then pass on the word to anyone who buys an Axolotl? Or at least first time buyers. Same goes for all these stores/zoos that are popping up on here recently for not providing the proper care for them.

It's just a thought really as I'm considering passing the message on to the store I got mine from. Would like to know what you folk think? =]

There's a group on facebook called "Axolotl World", the admin keeps his axies on gravel and I can't even convince him he is stupid or to come here. Suppose it wouldn't hurt to try mentioning it.

I do usually mention axolotl.org to axolotl sellers. But you know what I'm like now Erzs if I see something being kept in bad condition I say something XD In a pet shop however it's much easier to talk to the shop owner, and keep it friendly.

"Oh you mustn't use gravel... visit axolotl.org" ect.

Some people will always think they know best until they see otherwise I guess!

Haha yes Crysta I sure do! It's good to have Axolotl police out there!

I agree about being able to keep it friendlier in stores. I spoke to a really nice girl today in a pet shop, but I'm guessing the fact she keeps her own axolotls is why she cares and is willing to share tips/advice!

I'm yet to come across some in a zoo, and from what I've heard so far I don't think I want to. =[

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
