My oldest axie has always had a bit of a problem with regurgitating/vomiting her food (earthworms) back. It was rare at first, but then it was almost every day I fed her. I started giving her 1/2 days between feeding but today it happened barely 10 minutes after eating. I give her the smallest worms too but that doesn't help, and she is getting thinner. I've already had my second oldest axolotl die to not eating recently and I can't watch that happen to another. Should I keep feeding her anyway, every day, or try another food?

if another one of ur axolotls died from starvation i suggest its time you change things up. here are my personal experiences with regurgitating axies.

an axolotl i take care of started spitting out all the earthworms (1/4th pieces) i gave it for about a week. it usually was out within 10 seconds to 3 minutes, so not as long as urs keeps it down. what i realized was #1 the smaller the better. even if it seems like ur axolotl is big enough to handle it try even smaller. mine is 5-6 inches and now i feed them 1/6th pieces, 1/4th if its a smaller wiggler.

#2 sometimes they dont like to eat from a tong, now u didnt mention whether u just drop in the food or feed him/her personally with a tong but incase u do use a tong, the days when he spat his food back out i left 4 pieces in his food bowl, in less than 2 hours they all would be gone and no regurgitation problems. (again smaller pieces the better) also maybe show him where you are putting the food so he knows, especially if u have a designated "food spot" like i do (a stone looking food dish). my axolotl will go as far as sitting in her food dish when she is hungry sometimes, its very cute.

if these 2 changes do not work definitely changing the food. i usually would make the point that some axolotls do not like the greenish juice in red wigglers but if he swallows and spits out about 10 minutes later idk if tht would still be relevant. so try cut up night crawlers, try sinking pellet foods or any other axolotl safe option u can think of or people suggest. again with each food try leaving it in a food dish for an hour or 2. if its not gone by the end of 2 hours then remove it do not spoil the water.

i also read somewhere that since they are more active in the evening try feeding him/her then

if changing the food/ food delivery methods do not work, unfortunatly something may or may not be wrong with the axie itself.

important question will be what is your substrate if any, i hope u will not say stone or gravel... but if u do then u might wanna refer to this other thread about impacting which will cause your axolotl to stop eating http://www.caudata.org/forum/f46-be.../f58-sick-axolotl/59162-impacted-axolotl.html

since this has happened to another axolotl of yours it is possible that the problem is in the environment. if that is the case you will have to do some research on how to help the stone or gravel swallowed to pass and immediately remove the substrate (not in that order)

this is as far as my knowledge goes, i am not aware of any diseases that might cause the axolotl to stop eating though the existence of such an illness might very likely be possible. More informed an experienced members will add onto what i said and correct me if they see anything wrong so hopefully soon we will know what is wrong with your axolotl.

Thank you for the reply. I don't feed from a tong, I actually hand feed the other 3 adults but just drop the worm above her as she usually catches/finds it straight away. I stopped hand feeding her when I moved the other other axie out. There is no substrate in any tank.
I don't think she's spitting her food out, she makes gulping noises then what I guess is a partially digested worm comes out. She always takes the food straight away so I assume she likes it.
She was in the same tank as the other axie, but their food issues were different. I will be moving her to a new tank with another adult soon so I'll see then. I'll try feeding her even smaller pieces a little more often to see how it goes.

if the situation does not improve and noone on here is able to help i suggest u find urself an exotic vet with amph specialty. these visits can be fairly expansive so just incase i would start saving up some money. hoepfully ur axie will feel better on his own in the new tank with smaller pieces, or someone on here will be able to help u with their knowledge and experience. best of luck to u and your axie!!
